The warm welcome and the fantastic food make the agriturismo, Fattoria Dell'Uliveto, very special. Approached through pretty vine-clad hillsides, this 10 hectare farm is run by the charming Luigi, his brother Antonio, and their families. They have such enthusiasm for what they do and for their beloved region of Abruzzo. Most of their food and wine is grown or reared on the farm, with a strong emphasis on organic produce and it is superb. Special barbecue evenings, with traditional music, are sometimes arranged. These are great fun and the food is out-of-this-world. Guests are often involved in, or invited to watch, authentic dishes being prepared by Mamma - she's a marvel.
On the outskirts of a hamlet of similar houses, the Fattoria Dell'Uliveto house, with four simply furnished double bedrooms, is quite modern and is opposite a cantina (grape press), which is busy at certain times of the year. The location, very convenient for sightseeing, is within easy reach of the nicer beaches of Abruzzo, not far from the motorway and the wonderful town of Vasto, with its golden stretches of sand. Relaxing by the small pool (approx 8m x 4m) is a temptation too.
Fattoria Dell'Uliveto, with its small animals, birds and Maradonna, the pony, gives a very real experience of typical rural life, on a smallholding. Larger animals, including Luigi's "happy" Yorkshire Black pigs, donkeys and cows, are kept a few kilometres away - a great place to visit and also the home of his Accademia della Ventricina. Here, Luigi produces typical Abruzzo hams and salamis, from his own animals and with traditional methods and recipes. This year, yet again, he won the highest accolade for his ventricina salami the "Salami d'Italia " award - 1st Prize in the whole of Italy! In his restaurant, the food and wine are especially good, with the taste of truly fresh ingredients, brought straight from farm to table. Folk come from far and wide to sample such authentic cuisine - he will even regale you with his tale of Prince Charles! Food, wine and typical Abruzzo products are a passion with Luigi and we have been completely "infected " with his enthusiasm!
A truly fabulous experience for children, city dwellers, foodies, budding chefs and anyone interested in farming with genuine methods, Fattoria Dell'Uliveto is special. We all love going there and would never consider a trip to Abruzzo without the "Luigi Lello experience"!

Luigi and Antonio have joined together with other farmers in Abruzzo to sell each others products, but only once they have passed strict quality controls - they have cheeses, honeys, liqueurs, wines etc. - all done in a small low-key way, adhering to their principles of good food, produced healthily and ecologically, mostly organic and sold at Fattoria Dell'Uliveto's farm shop.
