Don Ferrante is a luxury hotel in Monopoli, Puglia. At Long Travel we love Monopoli and if ever there were a small and perfectly formed boutique hotel in a perfect location, then Don Ferrante is it

Nestled between the azure Adriatic and Monopoli’s whitewashed houses, the boutique Don Ferrante is breathtakingly romantic. A tangle of intricate narrow alleyways and streets wind their way through Monopoli’s centro storico, passing important historic buildings, tumbledown churches, magnificent palazzi and quaint houses, often with people sitting outside nattering with neighbours. Meander through and, on a narrow street with a glimpse of the sea at the bottom, you find he unique hotel Don Ferrante. Viewed from the street, the luxurious hotel Don Ferrante seems unimposing, giving little idea of the exclusivity and seclusion lying beyond the white humble façade of this unique building. Near to the castle and right on the sea, Don Ferrante was formerly a sixteenth-century fortress, built into Monopoli’s defensive walls. The ancient complex of buildings is notable for its fourteen chimneys, beautifully illuminated at night, and gleaming white during the day. Never has a chimney been more photogenic!

In fact, everything about the boutique Don Ferrante is photogenic and picture postcard pretty. Against the backdrop of a bright blue sky and equally blue sea, its white exterior just sparkles in the sun. Narrow steep stone stairs squeeze (literally) between sturdy walls, taking you to terraces, which open up with a vast breathtaking view of the sea, and form the restaurant terrace of the beach hotel Don Ferrante. Not only is everything painted white, but also white outdoor furniture and large umbrellas emphasise the brightness. In a “secret corner” is the charming terrace with the perfectly dinky pool. Looking out to sea and hidden from passing view by a substantial part of the defensive walls, small it might be, but it blends seamlessly. Plant pots, with prickly pears and aloe, are dotted about adding splashes of colour and forming architectural silhouettes against the whiteness.

Don Ferrante’s interior is no less impressive. The stark white has been tempered with décor based more on mellow natural colours, to blend beautifully with the honey-coloured stone. Superb lighting has been used to magnificent effect, to create a wonderfully cosy romantic atmosphere, without being dark. The breakfast room of the Don Ferrante which once was the gunpowder store, has a stone barrel vaulted ceiling and tiny windows. Serving also as the indoor restaurant, it is perfect for retreating from the heat of Puglia’s sun or the strong sea breezes and the food at the Don Ferrante is a gastronomic delight!

The boutique hotel Don Ferrante prides itself on the level of service it offers guests. It is superlatively discreet, but attentive. It certainly is not pretentious and cold for a luxurious hotel rather,Don Ferrante hotel is professional with a warmth typical of Puglia. Don Ferrante is a place to be comfortable, to feel that you can entirely relax and be looked after.

Along the walls from Don Ferrante is just one of Monopoli’s pretty little rocky coves, with some golden sand and crystal clear water, and overlooked by the incredible 1000 year old Castle of Santo Stefano.

Don Ferrante has now created two new rooms located in the Luxury Town House at about 150 mt. from the main building, the 35 sqm Dimora superior Assunta on the ground floor & the  40 sqm Junior suite Caterina.
