Il Palmento is a family friendly hotel with a real unique style, in Locorotondo, Puglia. Long Travel client’s love its laid-back atmosphere. It’s special and there’s just nothing else like it!
About 5km from Locorotondo, Il Palmento is magical and tranquil. A gloriously beautiful hamlet of trulli, in picturesque countryside, it is surrounded by well-kept lawns and pretty flower gardens, and has two lovely pools perfect for the whole family to enjoy.
Once several families lived and worked in Il Palmento’s hamlet of about thirty trulli cones. A group of friends fell in love with it and had the vision to see its potential. Local enthusiasts, determined to keep trulli alive, they bided their time. The inevitable happened, families moved out, and they bought their trulli. Excitement (and savings!) grew as they waited and, eventually, they went ahead with their ambitious project – to create something special, to recapture the experience of living in them, but, with modern standards. This was no mean feat, but they did it. The result is magical – a gloriously beautiful hamlet of trulli, in a lovely setting make up Il Palmento.
Il Palmento, made up of the trulli, with thick, stone walls and conical roofs, is full of character. Beautifully restored and very tasteful, all of the suites have their own trullo and a double/twin bedroom; shower room; living area, with a possibility of an extra bed; and most have a small corner for making drinks. Each suite at Il Palmento is quite different, as the owners wanted to allow the structure to dictate the form, rather than the other way around! One is on the first floor and, with terrace, it is slightly more private, so perfect for honeymoons or special occasions. The newly-built classic rooms are also in trulli. Closer to the pool, some overlook it and all are absolutely charming.
The reception of Il Palmento was once the bakery. The bar, now in the trullo, which was originally the ‘Palmento’, where they used to tread the grapes to make the wine, has an elegantly furnished terrace – a lovely spot to enjoy an ‘aperitivo’, or one of the al fresco dinners often served there, in summer. The cosy and welcoming lounge has a huge fireplace, for cooler months, and leads to the barrel-vaulted restaurant. Long Travel clients have heaped praise on the cuisine at Il Palmento.
In a splendid position, Il Palmento’s raised terraces, with swimming pools, have a picturesque backdrop of rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards. This is an unusual hotel, in a beautiful spot and is very special making Il Palmento the perfect family hotel.
