Palazzo Belmonte is a boutique beach hotel in Santa Maria Di' Castellabate in South Campania. An impressive palazzo, the unique Palazzo Belmonte is home of Principe di Belmonte, right by the sea and with extensive natural grounds.
Did Italians invent that decaying elegance, that shabby chic that gives a place real style? If they did, nowhere can it be more successful than at the unique Palazzo Belmonte. The 17th century Palazzo Belmonte is a masterpiece of grand architecture. The Principe di Belmonte, one of a long line of nobility stretching back over 400 years, still lives in one wing of the palace and Palazzo Belmonte still has that sense that you are staying in a noble gentleman’s home, rather than in a hotel.
Actually, it is not easy to create a viable hotel from an historic, listed building, for a notoriously demanding market, whilst at the same time retaining that sense of history and antiquity in a stunning architectural masterpiece such as Palazzo Belmonte. It could so easily have been ruined. Thankfully, there are people, who appreciate antiquity and shabby chic, Long Travel love the fact that the Prince has stuck to his guns and done things as he sees fit for the family friendly Palazzo Belmonte, rather than as some trends demand.
An imposing edifice, sitting right by the sea and within its own walled grounds, the beach hotel Palazzo Belmonte’s location is spectacular. Not only that, but this is no little walled garden. Palazzo Belmonte’s grounds cover 5 acres, making it perfect for families of all sizes. From the pretty flower-filled courtyard that greets you on arrival, to the terraced gardens, brimming with mature Mediterranean pines, palms, hibiscus, bougainvillea and so many other shrubs, this lush garden is a botanical paradise perfect for relaxation. More natural than manicured, the unique Palazzo Belmonte has lots of stone steps and uneven paths and you will find a secret corner, with a secret door and steps, which lead straight onto the lovely private sandy beach and its own bit of the crystal clear Cilento Coast sea. From within the protective walls of the Palazzo Belmonte you might not be able to see the sea from every corner or angle, but you can usually hear it – a background music, perfect for relaxing. The pool at the Palazzo Belmonte is sheltered from sea breezes by hedges and walling and most of the dining terraces capitalise on the fabulous sea views of the beach Hotel Palazzo Belmonte.
Palazzo Belmonte’s rooms are so very different from one another. They are housed in four areas of the palace and its grounds – Palazzo Belmonte itself; Eduardo’s house, which is a wing of the main palazzo reached via an archway from the main courtyard; Villa Belmonte Francesca and Villa Belmonte Sofia, set discreetly into the grounds. Each room has a story to tell and Long Travel past clients love that it feels very family friendly and homely.
On the south side of Santa Maria di Castellabate, boutique Palazzo Belmonte is ideally placed for ambling into town for a spot of shopping, dinner or a morning coffee. Charming and picturesque Santa Maria di Castellabate has a pretty harbour and lovely beach. Along the coast, is San Marco di Castellabate, with its square, and busy, working harbour. Both resorts have small shops, restaurants, pizzerie and gelaterie and can be lively in the summer, but sleepy at other times. In high season, local skippers usually run boat trips to Amalfi or Capri and there is a weekly market.
