Enjoy a delightful Aperitivo...

With Summer is almost here, we thought you may be interested to learn all about classic Italian cocktails, as our lovely Travel Expert Nadia has been reminiscing about warm lazy evenings in Italy and enjoying a traditional Aperitivo...

An Aperitivo is a pre-dinner drink specifically meant to whet your appetite, that usually occurs in the early evening between 6-9pm.  It is a time when Italians meet to relax over a light cocktail or glass of wine and enjoy finger foods, such as cheese and cured meats, to work up an appetite for dinner.

At an Aperitivo, Italians traditionally drink cocktails that contain an element of bitterness such as Negroni and Negroni Sbagliato that are made from Campari and vermouth, as well as sparkling prosecco and crisp white wines. Although, the most popular aperitivo drink is undoubtedly the Aperol Spritz, a delicious classic Italian cocktail made from Aperol, prosecco and a splash of soda water which is finished off with a slice of orange. For those who enjoy something a little more bitter then you can substitute Aperol for Campari.

Here is how to make a delicious Aperol Spritz, so you can enjoy a classic aperitivo cocktail at home in your garden on a balmy summer’s evening…
