Our Travel Expert Lucy, reminiscing about sunnier days spent in the beautiful city of Florence – a true paradise for all art and culture lovers! Here is the lovely Lucy, to tell you why a trip to this stunning city should be added to your bucket list for when the current government restrictions are eased.
Lucy's trip to Florence…
"I love Florence because there is so much to see and do, yet the city seems quieter and more untouched than some of the other major Italian cities like Rome and Venice. Florence is a hive of culture and beauty that is just waiting to be explored...
The city’s architecture is simply amazing with narrow cobbled streets filled with palazzi, medieval chapels, basilicas, and galleries full of the works of the great Renaissance artists, such as Michelangelo and Botticelli to name but a few.
For art lovers, no trip to Florence would be complete without a visit to the Galleria Dell Accademia to see Michelangelo’s famous sculpture, ‘David.’ I would highly recommend that you pre-book your visit to the gallery in advance and pay the extra to beat the queues.
If you are prepared to walk through tight passages and narrow staircases, then a visit to the Duomo Florence Cathedral is a must! Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of this beautiful city.
After a visit to the Duomo Florence Cathedral, I recommend you treat yourself to some of Italy’s finest Gelato from one of the city's Gelaterias! Or take a stroll across the Ponte Vecchio, a medieval bridge over the Arno River, known for its bustling jewellery shops, art sellers and antique boutiques.
For spectacular views across the city and perfect photo opportunities, then there is no better place than the historic square of Piazzale Michelangelo, located on the other side of the Arno River. I assure you that the views at sunset are simply breathtaking!
Plus, the city is home to many bars and restaurants, where you can soak up the atmosphere whilst enjoying authentic Italian cuisine and a glass or two of Chianti!"
